Burger King Selling A Doughnut Burger For Hanukkah

If you love doughnuts, burgers, and burgers made with doughnuts, you might want to think about spending Hanukkah in Israel, where Burger King will be offering doughnut burgers for the holiday.

According to YNetNews, the burger is called the “SufganiKing,” which is a play on sufganiyah, the Hebrew name for the jelly-filled doughnut traditionally eaten during Hanukkah. It’ll be a normal Whopper burger but with doughnuts for buns, and a jelly filling instead of ketchup. The SufganiKing will be available Dec. 25 through Jan. 1.

For those unfamiliar, doughnuts are popular during Hanukkah because it’s a time when Jews traditionally eat oily and fried foods. This, to honor the single jug of oil that was only supposed to last one day but burned for eight nights after the Jewish Macabbees defeated their Greek occupiers.

“This matching of two popular Israeli food items was inevitable for us,” said Israeli Burger King CEO Steve ben Shimol. “We’re proud to be able to end 2016 on a creative, festive note.”
