Sure, Go Ahead And Try To Use That Expired Coupon

(Kimaroo)

It’s frustrating when you clip or save a coupon, then forget to use it. What you may not realize, though, is that some stores and restaurants will allow you to use coupons after the expiration date. The policy may vary according to location or even the employee’s mood, but you don’t always have to let your couponing go to waste.

Kyle over at Rather-Be-Shopping.com rounded up some of the retailers where expired coupons always or sometimes work. In some places, presenting your old coupon is enough to prompt the cashier to pull out a coupon kept at the register for exactly that purpose.

Bed Bath and Beyond: We’ve discussed this before, but BB&B has rather loose policies with their 20% off one item coupons: if the coupon itself doesn’t work, your cashier will be able to use one on hand.

Burger King: Employees often don’t pay attention to expiration dates, though this will certainly vary by store. Kyle says that this is more likely to succeed at franchised locations, which is now all but 50 of the chain’s restaurants.

Buy Buy Baby: Not only can you use coupons from sibling store Bed Bath and Beyond, but the store also accepts expired coupons. They could have even expired before your baby was born!

Kohl’s: Kohl’s cash will sometimes be accepted past its expiration date.

Michaels (and other big-box craft stores): The competing big craft boxes (AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann) always have at least one coupon going for at least 40% off, and accept each other’s coupons as well.

Walmart: They give coupons a few days’ grace period, so you may be able to get manufacturer’s coupons through.
