Crate And Barrel Recalls 19K Hanging Lamps Because No One Wants Fire To Rain From Above

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a Crate and Barrel recall of 19,000 of its hanging lamps. The thing is, it’s great to have light shining down on whatever you’re doing but it’s not so nice when that light is coming from a fiery light fixture hanging above you.

In addition to the 19,000 lamps in the U.S., the CPSC says an additional 860 Crate and Barrel Finley Collection pendant lamps sold from January 2009 through July 2013 should not be used.

Wiring in the lamps could be crossed and mislabeled, creating a risk of shorting out. So far there have been four reports of lamps shorting out, which can cause property damage and at least one case of a minor burn.

The lamps are white or wheat (off-white) linen large, small drum or rectangular lamp shades, and feature a 9-inch silver electrical wire with tandem metal support cables and chrome-plated steel ceiling plate.

Large lamps: 12 inches high, 28 inches in dimeter, with an SKU number of 684-069 or 684-077 (located on white label inside ceiling plate)

Small lamps: 12 inches high, 2- inches in diameter, with an SKU number 676-384 or 440-755

Rectangular lamps: 14 inches high, 12.5 inches wide, with an SKU number 322-067 or 322-423

If you own one of the above lamps, stop using it immediately and contact Crate and Barrel (800-451-8217 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central time or at www.crateandbarrel.com) for either a replacement, non-potentially fiery lamp or a full refund. That includes shipping and a $100 reimbursement for charges incurred in removing and replacing the lamp by using a licensed electrician.
