Reser’s Fine Foods Listeria Recall Now Includes 22,800 Pounds Of Lunch Meats

Mmm, listeria! Last week, Reser’s Fine Foods recalled 109,000 cases of refrigerated ready-to-eat salads, dips, slaws, and other items that you generally serve cold and don’t reheat enough to kill off all bacteria. Now they’ve expanded that recall to include meat-containing products like chicken and ham salad and baked beans with beef.

Listeria is a nasty food-borne pathogen that’s even nastier for pregnant women, the elderly, children, and people with compromised immune systems. Not that it’s all that fun for everyone else: symptoms in adults with healthy immune systems include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, and abdominal pain.

Of course, the products weren’t always sold under the Reser’s name. Recalled products were sold at dozens of retailers under store brand names and the company’s own brand. Those retailers and/or brand names include (as of this writing) 7-Eleven, Aldi, Block and Barrel, Casa Solana, Dickeys, Dillons, Famous Dave’s, Cobblestreet Market, Jewel, King Sooper, Miller, Mrs. Giles, Mrs. Weaver, Orval Kent, Green Hill, Chef’s Choice, Safeway, Sav-A-Lot, Stone Mill, Essential Everyday, Sysco, Cross Valley Farms, Walmart, Marketside, West Creek, Yoder, My Premier, and Yum.

Recalled products have best by dates as late as February 2014. The only recalled products are those from the company’s Topeka, Kansas plant. Those items will have a plant identifier code of 20 after the best by date.

If you purchased any items included in this recall, take them back to the store for a refund or discard them. Consumers with any questions can call Reser’s at 1-888-257-7913 between 8 AM and 8 PM Eastern time.
